Watching your intake of calories is important, when trying to build muscle. It is important to eat a well-balanced diet to help build muscle mass. If you don't eat correctly, you'll gain fat instead of muscle.

If you start gaining body fat, increase your cardiovascular workouts and eliminate saturated fats and simple sugar from your diet. You can't just look at the pounds you weigh because some of your weight will be added muscle. You may get frustrated when you should really be happy. Keep your percentage of body fat low, but don't become obsessed with the scale.
